SELF-EMPLOYED PROGRAM
The Self-employed Persons Program allows people to immigrate to Canada permanently as a self-employed person.
If you’re interested in this program, you must:
- have relevant experience in cultural activities or athletics, and
- be willing and able to make a significant contribution to the cultural or athletic life of Canada.
Eligibility
You must:
- have at least 2 years of relevant experience within the last 5 years (if you have taken part in cultural activties or athletics at a world-class level OR been a self-employed person in cultural activities or athletics);
- be willing and able to be self-employed in Canada;
- meet the program’s selection criteria, and
- meet medical, security and other conditions.
Your application will be assessed on selection criteria that include your:
- experience;
- education;
- age;
- language abilities;
- adaptability.
You must also show that you have enough money to support yourself and your family after you get to Canada!
Cultural activities include jobs generally seen as part of Canada’s artistic and cultural fields.
- authors and writers;
- creative and performing artists;
- musicians;
- painters, sculptors and other visual artists;
- technical support and other jobs in
motion pictures;
- creative designers;
- craftspeople, etc.
START-UP VISA
Canada’s Start-up Visa Program targets immigrant entrepreneurs with the skills and potential to build businesses in Canada that:
- are innovative;
- can create jobs for Canadians;
- can compete on a global scale.
To be eligible for the Start-up Visa Program, you must:
- meet the language requirements (CLB 5 in all abilities);
- get a letter of support from a designated organization;
- bring enough money to settle*;
- plan to sette in any province exccept Quebec.
*The amount you need depends on the size of your family. IRCC updates these amounts every year.
